My mother was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2010. This is a blog about coming to terms with her absent mind.

Monday again

I've decided that we need to see the GP again, Ma is still regularly in tears and distress. It is awfully draining for her and really hard to witness. I'm not sure what he can do, if anything, she's already on anti-depressants but I think it would be a good thing to get some advice.

Things which have amused me this morning:

The phone rang and Ma tried answering it by picking up the answering machine and shouting into it.

An almost Pavlovian response to the sound of the Dyson - wherever I am up go her feet and hang there until I've vacuumed underneath.

'I've got a bit of a pain across my tummy...

*lifts top* (no bra of course)

Umm maybe it's the swimming costume you are wearing. Back to front. Clearly channelling Giant Haystacks and Borat.

  1. My Mum also has vascular dementia. She's 87. My Dad passed away last week, and I'm anxious about the changes I already see in her due to the stress. I'm happy I found this blog, and thank you for being so candid.

  2. I'm very pleased you've found it Sandy, one of the reasons for doing this is the hope that it will find people like you. I try to be as candid as possible without being too downbeat and letting my sense of humour run riot without being disrespectful to Ma. It's a fine balance sometimes!

  3. My most memorable laugh-out-loud, even though embarrassing moment: Mum tyring to pick up her favourite shoes, which were unfortunately attached to someone else's feet.

The is a good blog, Bee. Has just the right balance.
